Review on the Pro Power Sit Up Bench - Written by Dominic L
The product
The Pro Power sit up bench is most likely one of the most affordable sit up bench’s in terms of price that you will find on the market. I prefer the term affordable as it does not imply a low level of quality normally associated with terms such as cheap, witch in terms of price this bench is. Many people tend overlook a dedicated sit up bench as they believe that they can do sit ups on a normal weights bench, the floor and so on. While to a degree this is true, a product specifically designed for the job obviously has its advantages.
Unpacking & assembly
The Pro Power sit up bench comes packed in a very small box weighing about 5kg, easily carried under one arm. Inside the box the bench comes in three main sections, two parts attach together with a single allan key screw and a hex nut, the third piece with a simple lock pin. Needless to say the instructions are not exactly necessary. Once you have the main sections assembled all that is left to do is add the leg supports and foam padding, then set the bench to the desired angle. As with most home assembled fitness equipment the Pro Power sit up bench comes supplied with all the tools required for assembly.
Comfort
The bench is adequately comfortable for the type of exercise and time you will spend on it. In fact I can not imagine a top of the range bench feeling any different. There is ample foam padding for the shins, the rear of the knee and the wooden bench itself is not felt through the padding. I suspect that your abs and back will feel the pain long before any comfort related issue.
Quality
As previously mentioned the Pro Power sit up bench is at the lower end of the price scale, however this should not put you off. The bench is clearly made from what I would call budget aluminium box section, however this is generally what you find on all home fitness equipment these days, as it is light and more importantly affordable. I have used sit up bench’s from what I would call the mid range price scale and can honestly say they have no advantage over the Pro Power sit up bench, despite costing roughly twice as much. Obviously the quality of the materials used is higher, but this does not improve the quality of the exercise.
Storage
Given the compact size of the bench it is not hard to find a small space to store it if required. The bench basically folds upon itself when lifted, meaning it can easily be stored under a sofa, a bed, or placed in a cupboard without any great difficulty.
Conclusion
It is hard to fault the Pro Power sit up bench as it has no obvious faults and meets all the criteria of its design. The quality is reasonable for a product in its price range and is sufficiently comfortable to use. Although the bench is obviously designed for sit ups, the supplied manual details two techniques you can adopt, however after several weeks I found many uses for the bench, from doing incline butterflies whilst waiting for a weights bench to become free, to calf rises on the bench’s supporting feet. For these reasons I can not praise the humble sit up bench enough, for its small size and price the Pro Power sit up bench makes a fantastic addition to any home gym.
Scoring
Cost 9/10
Design 9/10
Features 10/10
Quality 8/10
Ease of use 10/10
